Nigredo – The Black Phase
“Where identity collapses, the true self begins to stir.”In classical alchemy, Nigredo is the first and darkest stage of transformation—the putrefactio, or blackening. It is the alchemical death, the dissolution of the false personality, the ego-masks, and the conditioned identity.Here, all that is unstable, hollow, or inherited from the outside world rots away. It is not merely destruction—it is sacred decay. Albedo – The White Phase
“From darkness comes clarity. From ruin, new order.”Albedo (whitening) is the second phase of the Work—the purification of what survived Nigredo.
